Here are Five Fast Facts with our Grants Manager, Betsy Zobl-Tar!

1. What makes you feel drawn to your work at the League?

Throughout my career in nonprofit fundraising, I turned to the League again and again for data and analysis that highlighted the impact of policies that left many Michiganders out of prosperity. When the opportunity presented itself to work with the League at the same time policies were being enacted that left thousands of families, children, and young adults struggling to meet basic needs, I took it as a sign from the universe that it was time to aim high and pitch in at the policy level to effect the changes Michiganders deserve.

2. What are the top three things you’re working on this year that you’re most excited for or are the most impactful?

a. Working with the League’s strong and steadfast partners.

b. Building on the Development team’s impact – we are small but mighty!

c. Taking part in my first annual appeal for the League – keep your eyes out!

3. If you were giving a speech and could choose a song to blast through the speakers (walk-on song) as you took the stage, what song would you choose?

I believe in my heart that there should be full amnesty for anybody who gets pulled over for speeding because they were listening to “Lust for Life” by Iggy Pop, so I’m going with that one.

4. What is your favorite thing about living in Michigan?

Watching the world realize that Detroit is amazing. Michelin-starred art institute, music legends as far as the eye can see, more Art Deco than you can shake a stick at… what’s not to love?

5. If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Warning: Be alert for unprovoked useless trivia and/or movie quotes.
