The Lansing Center | Lansing, MI

Our 2026 Public Policy Forum, 250 Years and Counting: Working to fulfill the promise of democracy in America, was held on April 30 in Lansing. Hundreds of people gathered together to hear our 2026 keynote speaker, Natalie Foster, co-founder of the Economic Security Project. An unstoppable builder, Natalie previously founded the sharing economy community Peers, co-founded Rebuild the Dream with Van Jones and served as Digital Director for President Obama’s Organizing for America – a leading partner in winning transformative health care reform. She is the author of The Guarantee: Inside the Fight for America’s Next Economy, which explores what is possible when we guarantee economic rights and prosperity for all.

Following Natalie’s keynote address, we heard from a panel of experts who discussed strategies for building democratic and economic justice in Michigan. This year’s panelists included: Dessa Cosma, founding director of Detroit Disability Power; Micheal Davis, Jr., executive director of Promote the Vote MI; and Meredith Migizi, executive director of Miigwech, Inc. The panel was moderated by Zach Gorchow, president of Gongwer News Service Michigan. We were also pleased to present the 2026 Sharon Parks Award to Maha Freij, a leading institution builder and visionary who has served as the president & CEO of ACCESS for more than 35 years. The League’s Sharon Parks Award is given to someone whose extraordinary advocacy or policy work is deserving of celebration.

We are grateful to all who attended the event, as well as to the many sponsors who made the morning possible.

THANK YOU TO OUR 2026 SPONSORS:
