Here are Five Fast Facts with our Chief Development Officer, Kate Powers!

1. What makes you feel drawn to your work at the League?

I have spent my entire professional career, and a lot of my time volunteering, in support of those who have the greatest needs. The work of the League allows me to connect with that type of work, while also bringing support to the different facets of the League’s mission from our communities. Sharing our mission and our work with those who are similarly minded and interested in what we do is my favorite part of my job!

2. What are you excited about in your work this year?

I am so excited to share accessible opportunities to support the work of our team. Through our new monthly giving program, the 1912 Society, we will be able to bring even more folks into the fold of supporting the League for an investment that can be very impactful. I am also really grateful to bring new sponsors to our Champions for Kids event this year. As the first staff person fully dedicated to fundraising and development for the League, I am excited to be able to work to grow the support of our communities to allow our work to expand across the state.

3. What did you want to be when you grew up?

From the time I was 5 years old, I was convinced I would get a law degree from the University of Michigan. While I didn’t actually accomplish either of those things, I believe that the career path I have chosen allows me to affect even more change in our world. And as for attending the University of Michigan….Go Green!

4. What is your favorite thing about living in Michigan?

The seasons. I love every season in Michigan and if you ask me which one is my favorite, I just can not do it. It is like choosing a favorite child. Every season brings something new and beautiful and it is the reason why I can’t think about moving out of Michigan.

5. If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Caution: Will pet any and every dog! I love all dogs and want to be friends with every single one of them.
