Welcome to Five Fast Facts! As the League kicks off our next chapter, we wanted to introduce (or reintroduce) ourselves. Get to know us and what makes us who we are.

Here are Five Fast Facts with our President and CEO, Monique Stanton!

1. What makes you feel drawn to your work at the League?

I love that our focus is on policy and systems change. If we want to make Michigan and our world a better place, we need to address root causes of inequities and create systematic change to address them. Coming from a background in human services, I would see how people would often be stuck navigating the same types of issues over and over again. Advancing public policy change in order to address these issues makes me the most passionate about our work at the League.

2. What are the top three things you’re working on this year that you’re most excited for or are the most impactful?

  1. The Earned Income Tax Credit!
  2. Our public health work is also very meaningful, as we continue through COVID-19 phases, and lift up the work being done by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and work on Medicaid re-eligibility access.
  3. Our racial equity work is so essential. It is interwoven and interconnected into all we do, and we prioritize racial equity work internally as well as externally.

3. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An archeologist! I loved dinosaurs as a kid.

4. What is your favorite thing about living in Michigan?

I would say the outdoors. Michigan is so beautiful; I love the lakes, I like to hike and camp. And I really like the seasons.

5. Do you collect anything?

I collect cookbooks, and I actually use them a lot. Typically when I go somewhere, I get a cookbook. I also collect vintage Christmas stuff.
