Timeline

Three things you can do now:

  1. Sign up for the April 15 partner call.
  2. Read the embargoed report and view the county rankings. Look for areas where your county is doing well or doing poorly compared with other counties (No. 1 is the best ranking in the state).
  3. Join with other advocates in your area to coordinate a release or a message. We can help connect you.
  4. Be ready to comment to local press; write a statement or news release; or plan a news event.
  5. Use social media to help promote the release of the data book.

Three things you can do during the embargoed period (April 16-22):

  1. Talk with reporters who have agreed to the embargo and have been given access to the embargoed site. We’ll let you know who they are.
  2. Call reporters, editors and talk show hosts in your area to see if they are interested in the embargoed report and have them send us a request.
  3. Promote Kids Count and your involvement on social media

Three things you can do the day of the release, Tuesday, April 23:

  1. Issue a statement/news release/news event/blog/website post/email on the report. This should reflect local data and a solution/s that will help improve child well-being.
  2. Talk to reporters. There will be coverage in print and broadcast that day and we would love to connect our partners with media near you. If your local media are not covering the report release and you feel comfortable calling them, ask if they are aware of the report. Send them links.
  3. Post on social media or retweet and like and share from the League’s social media, Twitter.com/michleague and Facebook.com/michleague.

Three things you can do after April 23:

  1. Write a letter to the editor offering solutions and summarizing the Kids Count data. We can provide samples.
  2. Write an OpEd column on local Kids Count data and what it means. We can assist with this.
  3. Look for ways throughout the year to use Kids Count data to advocate for programs or policies that improve the lives of children.
