League applauds Michigan Senate for correcting House funding reversal

The Michigan League for Public Policy has issued the following statement on the Michigan Senate’s supplemental appropriations bill that would reinstate about $634 million in funding for work projects that were cut last week by the House Appropriations Committee. The statement can be attributed to Monique Stanton, President and CEO of the Michigan League for Public Policy

“The Michigan Senate put good sense first tonight after some complete nonsense from the House Appropriations Committee last week. The Senate’s bipartisan support restores funding to crucial projects — like Rx Kids and school services for children harmed by the Flint Water Crisis — especially at a time when families and communities are facing uncertainties due to federal cuts. Michiganders rely on this support.

Last week, the House Appropriations Committee created chaos, confusion and concern for communities around the state when it used a rare maneuver to unliterally claw back about $650 million in previously approved funding for dozens of projects. Their actions yanked away support without notice and left Michiganders feeling abandoned.

We hope the Michigan House will quickly follow the Senate’s lead. A vote on this supplemental will not only improve outcomes for Michigan’s families and kids, it will restore trust in state government.”
