A new report from Kids Count Data Center shows Michigan is in the bottom 10 states when it comes to education and 34th for overall child well-being. It showed 72-percent of fourth graders aren’t proficient in reading, 75-percent of eighth graders aren’t proficient in math. Only one in five students are graduating high school on time. Kids Count’s policy director said one cause is absenteeism, as they report 40-percent of Michigan students are missing at least 10-percent of school days.
