Income disparity is, said Gilda Jacobs, is “complicated but there’s things we can do to make changes.”
Jacobs, a former state senator from Huntington Woods, is president and CEO of the Michigan League for Public Policy, a Lansing-based advocacy group that has examined income disparity in Michigan.
She listed causes of income disparity, both within communities and across zip codes and other boundaries: Physical mobility, property tax base, education, and tax policies.
