Michigan’s Democratic and Republican lawmakers have set their sights on targeted tax relief this session and seem committed to seeing it through as quickly as possible.

How they want to go about doing it, though, is somewhat different.

On paper, both parties want offer aid in similar ways. One part would involve rolling back taxes levied at retirees; the other would mean increasing a credit for working families by boosting Michigan’s Earned Income Tax Credit rate.
