…Earlier on Thursday, Michigan Families for Fair Care held a press conference in Lansing and urged U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett (R-Charlotte) to vote yes on the measure. The press call also featured Monique Stanton, president and CEO of the Michigan League for Public Policy, who said while the monetary cost of losing health care access was top of mind for struggling Michiganders, the human cost was also high.

“The human cost is, when someone gets sick, and they don’t have health care, they’re likely to delay their health care,” Stanton said. “And that ultimately means, especially if you have a chronic condition, it’s going to get worse and to potentially a crisis point before you actually access health care.”

Barrett ultimately voted no against the measure.
