Invest in MI Kids would amend the Michigan Constitution to create a 5% “fair share surcharge” applied to individual filers making more than $500,000 and joint filers making more than $1 million, with the additional tax revenue placed into the School Aid Fund. According to the Michigan League for Public Policy, the proposal would generate more than $1.5 billion annually.

The petition aims to address underfunding in Michigan’s education system, requiring the additional funds go toward local school district classrooms, career and technical education, reducing class sizes and recruiting and retaining teachers.
