…In Gleaners’ service area of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston, and Monroe counties, the number of children who meet qualifications for free or reduced meals at school has increased over the past two years. According to the Kids Count Data Center, more than 317,000 students are at risk of hunger when school is out. At the same time, Gleaners has seen sustained increased need, with requests for food support up 30% year-over-year.

The Summer Food Service Program uses two distribution models to provide access to nutritious meals for children 18 years or younger across southeast Michigan.
