Here in Michigan, an estimated 41% of households struggle to afford basic needs. That includes water. Water is essential to the physical and mental health and well-being of families living in every county across our state, yet many households struggle to afford this vital necessity.

There are a couple of key reasons for the lack of affordability. One is that wages have lagged behind the rising cost of living and another is that residential water costs have almost doubled over the past few decades. This has made it increasingly more difficult for struggling families to pay their water and sewer bills.
