Michigan House GOP budget lacks transparency, puts basic services Michiganders rely upon at risk

Budget includes more than $5 billion in cuts to health care, human services, food safety programs, environmental health and more

Lansing—The Michigan League for Public Policy has issued the following statement on the Michigan House Republican’s budget plan. The budget includes more than $5 billion in cuts that will negatively impact families and entire communities. The statement below can be attributed to League President and CEO Monique Stanton.

“This is an irresponsible budget that makes deep, harmful cuts to health care, human services, food safety programs, environmental health and many other basic services that Michiganders rely upon. At a time when people are still reeling from the huge impacts that the federal Republican megabill will have on their lives, Republicans in the Michigan House have decided to double down and cause even more harm.

The House Republicans released this budget just an hour before calling a vote, leaving no opportunity for the public to review it and provide their feedback. The lack of transparency is egregious and further erodes people’s trust in the lawmakers who are supposed to be representing them.”
