…The Michigan League for Public Policy, which advocates for the poor, estimates that the U.S. government paid for 76% of total Medicaid spending in Michigan in 2024.

The group’s president and CEO, Monique Stanton, said the Medicaid expansion halved hospitals’ uncompensated care costs, and the state government does not have revenue to offset possible federal cuts.

“If we lose the ability to reimburse health systems and hospitals for their uncompensated care, because we have Medicaid, that will be very problematic for them,” she said.
