Looking Back at Champions for Kids 2026

The Michigan League for Public Policy’s Champions for Kids data launch and luncheon took place on Sept. 17 in Lansing. We were thrilled to welcome fellow organizations, advocates, community members and lawmakers as we celebrated the release of the 2026 Kids Count in Michigan Data Profiles and a special report on young adults.

Champions for Kids 2026 featured:

  • The release of the 2026 Kids Count in Michigan Data Profiles and a special report on Michigan’s youth and young adults.
  • The presentation of the 2026 Champion for Kids Award to the Michigan Organization on Adolescent Sexual Health (MOASH)
  • A panel of experts discussing the findings of the latest Kids Count in Michigan report on young adults, featuring Melissa Kiesewetter, president (Ogimaakaan) of Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College; Arabia Simeon, founder and CEO of POGO; and Dr. Daniel Williams, president and CEO of the Steelcase Foundation. Amy Zaagman, executive director of the Michigan Council for Maternal and Child Health, moderated.
