“We’re falling behind in education. Michigan ranks in the bottom 10 states for education,” said Anne Kuhnen, the Kids Count Policy Director in Michigan.

The new Kids Count report says Michigan’s education system is worse off in comparison to previous years in four key categories. The report uses data from the U.S. Census and the U.S. Department of Education, among other sources.

The report says that 72% of Michigan’s 4th graders are not proficient in reading. Additionally, it says that 75% of Michigan’s 8th graders are not proficient in math.
