The country’s lack of affordable and accessible child care short-changes children, costs the American economy billions of dollars a year, stymies women professionally and is pushing families to the breaking point, according to the 2023 KIDS COUNT® Data Book, released today by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

Each year, the report sheds light on the well-being of America’s kids and ranks the states according to how children are faring overall. New HampshireUtah, and Massachusetts rank first, second, and third in overall well-being in the 2023 Data BookMississippiLouisiana, and New Mexico ranked 48th, 49th, and 50th.
