A program that subsidizes child care costs for low-income Michigan families would expand and see co-pays eliminated under a budget proposed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this week.

Michigan’s Child Development and Care subsidy program currently subsidizes child care for qualifying families making up to 150% of the poverty line ($39,750 for a family of four). Whitmer’s proposal would expand the program to qualifying families making up to 200% of the poverty line ($53,000 for a family of four) though Sept. 2022.
